Here is a title slide show to show you what Face It is about…
My third book came out this week. It is a picture book about dealing with one's fear. A mother, named Michelle, tells her son, Mark, about how she used to love to be afraid. She tells him how her relationship to fear now is very different. She becomes afraid much more easily than she used to. She has Parkinson's disease. She has also been afraid of the disease that has changed her life so much. Mark learns ways he helps her face the fears that have been part of their lives.
I wrote this book because I have Parkinson's disease, and like thirty percent of the people who have Parkinson's disease, I am often anxious or afraid. I first learned I had the disease when I was thirty-eight years old and my own son was three-and-a-half. Children whose parents or grandparents live with a chronic illness can become more resilient when the disease is causing troubles if they know it is okay to talk about it, to ask questions, and specific ways they can help.
